PostSubject: Flowers for the Dead [TAG: Milo]   Wed Jun 18, 2014 3:53 pm

Roarke stood before the flower stand, eyeing the different bouquets. His wife had liked all flowers equally and he was unsure what to buy for her headstone. Aurora might've known what to get better than he did, even if she'd been too young to know her mother. His daughter was elsewhere though, doing only God knew what. She'd been so odd since returning home. It was like he didn't know her anymore. So, he was on his own, perplexed to no end.

"Ah, for crying out loud." He muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose.

Milo pulled out a cigarette and a lighter as he was returning from the Tip Top Club and heading back to the Moriarti Den to rest for a bit. He lit up the cigarette, his eyes traveled among the shops and stands that the Alley centered around. What he hadn't expected was to see his father standing in front of a flower stand, an expression of confusement and irritation displayed upon his face. If Milo had to guess was that the flowers were meant for his mother's grave. Shouldn't Aurora be helping him out with this, but Milo didn't see any sign of her anywhere close. Which meant that his father was alone.

Milo took a drag of his cigarette before sighing out softly; a puff of thin smoke flowed out of his mouth. He then headed over to where his father was standing, glancing over the flowers quickly from a decent view. "White roses." Milo simply commented, taking the cigarette out of his mouth.

Lyle glanced over at his wayward son. He hadn't expected to run into him. "Thanks." he said stiffly, then he ordered the roses from the vendor. When he had the bouquet in hand, he turned his head, meaning to speak. But he just rubbed the back of his neck, sighing. Once upon a time, he could talk to his son; something he'd taken for granted. Finally, he asked, "Do you want to come along?" If she'd been there, his wife would have wanted him to be civil. So today, he would try.

"No problem." Milo responded, shrugging his shoulders slightly. He watched how his father turned his head, attempting to speak to him. Words weren't really passed between them anymore due to Milo joining the mafia, becoming the 'black sheep'. Milo felt a few gazes boring into his back, already knowing that a few of the guards watching him had run off to tell Korso. He knew that this wasn't going to please his boss at all. Especially since the current police chief was Milo's father and the gangs' biggest enemy right now But Milo didn't quite care really. He could deal wit Korso's rants and warnings when he got home.

"Sure.I haven't been there for quite a while." Milo admitted truthfully, flicking his finished off cigarette to the ground in a casual manner.

Lyle looked around them, spotting the men who watched the two Roarke men with dark looks. He knew gangsters when he saw them. It was part of his job after all. "Your friends don't seem too pleased." he remarked casually. Much as he'd been disappointed in his son's choice of lifestyle, he wasn't aiming for him to get killed on his account. 'Promise me.' his wife had pleaded. "I'll try not to act like too much of a cop, if that helps." he said, a hint of a smirk on his lips.

Milo gave a low chuckle as his father caught sight of Korso's bodyguards that had been watching over him. "They're not. Especially since you're the reason for fuss going around the gangs." Milo bluntly commented, shrugging his shoulder as he glanced over at them over his shoulder. "I could care less for them. It was Joseph's idea for me to have guards." Milo never did liked the idea to have others watch over him. It didn't feel right. Besides he could defend himself when needed.

He looked back over at his father at his comment, giving him a light amused smirk. "Oh? Now that's something I've got to see if you can succeed," Milo teased.

Lyle frowned, staring back at the guards. He'd often wondered how things had been for Milo, the son of the commissioner, stuck in the middle of liars and killers. But he was a smart boy--man, now--and he seemed to be surviving.

"Hey, now, I know how to be normal every so often." Lyle said, looking back at Milo. "Never would've snagged your mother otherwise." Although, as others would've told it, she'd been the one to snag him. And he wouldn't deny he'd been wrapped around her finger since day one.

"Cemetery's not far from here. I won't keep you too long."

Milo scoffed slightly at this, rolling his eyes playfully at his father's attempt to defend his normalcy. "You mean rarely," Milo smirked, raising an eyebrow at his father. His smirk slowly turned into a smile as his father talked about his mother. He didn't remember much of his mother due to his young age when she had died. But he did remember fragments of her. She had been quite the bookworm such as he was. And that her favorite flowers were white roses.

"I don't have a curfew with the Moriarti family. I can go where I please, even if Korso whines about it."
Milo could spend as much time with his father at his mother's grave as he wanted. Korso nor the guards could do anything about it.

Lyle couldn't help but chuckle at Milo's comment. "Maybe. Maybe so." There was hardly a day he wasn't at the office poring over reports and patrol routes. He'd been that way for over twenty years, and he doubted he knew what to do with himself outside work anymore. After all, he'd lost both his children when he wasn't looking.

"Well, alright then. Let's be on our way."

Although it was still awkward between him and his father, it was still nice to talk him sometimes. Milo still had the feeling that his father still has given his work a bit of a break. He could tell that by how much complaining he'd heard from the other gangs about Rourke. Milo nodded as he followed after Rourke to the cemetery.

He side glanced at his father for a moment before refocusing his gaze straight ahead. "So how's Aurora?" he asked out of curiosity.

"She did better for a while." Lyle answered, "But she's started disappearing again." He'd tried to get some of his men--hell, even Helga--to follow her but somehow his daughter had managed to shake them. No manner of interrogation on his part would get her to spill. If he wasn't so worried he'd be impressed by her resilience.

Milo slightly grimaced at this. He wasn't too fond of his sister being involved with the bad side of Attica City. Sure Milo was working for the mafia, but that was it. His sister on the other hand was probably getting involved with drugs or something along the lines. That worried and displeased Milo very much about his sister.

"Need me to see about her?" Milo asked, side glancing at his father.

"That would be appreciated." Lyle nodded, "I'd like to avoid the need for another headstone." He didn't like the mafia buddies of Milo's, but he still trusted his son enough to want him to look after Aurora when he himself couldn't.

Lyle led them through the iron gates of the Sleepy Acres Cemetery and past headstones of different shapes and sizes. He stopped before one shaped as an angel in flight and carefully set the bouquet of roses on his wife's grave with all the tenderness he'd shown her in life.

Milo nodded, slightly grimacing at the headstone comment. He was hoping there wasn't ever going to be another headstone. Even though he was on the opposite side as his dead, Milo did still care for his father. Although they did have their differences, it didn't mean death for one or both of them.

"You and I both." Milo murmured under his breath before they reached the cemetery and entered. He swept his eyes over the headstone, swallowing lightly as he watched his father carefully set the bouquet on his mother's grave.

"Happy anniversary, Moira." Lyle said quietly, patting the angel's head, before standing back up. They'd have been married for twenty-eight years if she'd been alive. And maybe she would've been there to keep him from burying himself in work so deep that he'd ignored his kids. She'd be ashamed if she could see the state of their family. God knew he was.

Milo couldn't help but smile a bit softly at his father's action and words. He returned his attention to the angel headstone, not sure of what to say really. He only remembered fragments of his mother, but he really did wish that he could remember more of her. He could remember that he loved and adored her greatly from the fragments of his memory of her. But that was so long in the past, that made Milo feel a bit upset that he couldn't have much of the memory of her such as his father did.

"It isn't fair much," he murmured to himself, titling his head at the tombstone. He wondered if he would be in the mafia if she was still alive. That would've depended on her and what she was really like.
