PostSubject: Event #3 - The Riot   Sun Jul 20, 2014 9:19 pm

Outside Attica's city hall, an angry crowd's cries echo across the downtown area. Police line the perimeter, full gear equipped in case tempers get the better of the people. Some are demanding the police take responsibility for the recent failures of the Tip Top raid and Emerald Massacre. Some want Commissioner Roarke and Mayor Bonfamille to step down, and let people more competent take their place. With such tensions, it wouldn't take long before a spark is created to blow the situation way out of control...

Barbara watched from the sidelines as people started yelling, she was wearing a simple black tee and form fitting jeans as she kept to herself. Things could get nasty and fast, she was there because Preston had wanted someone to keep an eye on things. Plus she wasn't entirely unarmed, she kept her hands in her pockets as the cries started to get louder if things got too out of control she would leave. After all there would be no point if she risked her neck for something like this, of course she couldn't blame any of the people demanding to have retribution for what had happened. Her lips pursed as she spotted one of the guys getting violent, it wouldn't take much for him to get shoved back or worse.

Lian had just taken his usual daily routine of walking through the Memorial gardens, not knowing anything about the gathering in the streets near the City Hall. He wasn't even sure if he was suppose to even head in that direction, having the feeling to turn around this instant. But his feet had carried him to the gathering due to his extreme curiosity. Lian wrinkled his nose a bit at hearing the people shouting for the police to take responsibility for some raid at a local club and a massacre? There had been a raid at that club he had been at recently? No wonder it looked like it was getting redone or something. He paled a bit at the massacre mention. There had been a massacre in this town as well. Lian really felt like he stuck out like a sore thumb in the crowd, when the people began demanding the steps downs of a police commissioner and his grandmother as the mayor. He felt a bit uncomfortable as seeing the crowd become more restless and louder. Sure he loved danger. But this danger right here really didn't suit him. Especially when it dealt with his grandmother. Lian was a bout to turn around and walk away, but now there was more people stacking up behind him. There's was no escape from this. And he was in the middle of this raging crowd as well.

Katara pulled her jacket tighter around herself, wondering if maybe this was a bad spot to try and pick up customers. She had thought that maybe hanging around a bigger area would help her make a little more money. God knew she needed as much as she could get. But it looked like there was something going on, something bordering between protest and riot. Katara bit her lip, wondering if she should try to get out while she could. Some of these people were so angry, it was only a matter of time before someone snapped and all hell broke loose. She looked around, wondering if she could find a way out.

The news van rolled out onto the scene of the protest. The police were already lining the walls of the city hall, and it was expected that The Mayor would make a guest appearance shortly. Pocahontas exhaled deeply before inserting her earpiece and then stepping out of the van. She was to cover the story on this protest, praying to herself that things wouldn't go bad. She had done on-scene coverage before, but none at all during a near-violent event.

As soon as everything was set up, Pocahontas began narrating to the screen what was happening at the scene. After the narrations and explanations, a voice buzzed in her earpiece and she gave her television smile. "We have word that Mayor Bonfamille is set to arrive onto the scene at any moment now. Back to you." Pocahontas spoke, clutching her jacket. The cameras lowered and clicked off as the station went to commercials. Turning around, she looked onto the scene and bit her lip. She was scared.

Jasmine had heard about the protest going on, after all that had happened she decided to check it out. Things were crazy, she could see that much as soon as she arrived. It could turn out dangerous, with that thought in mind she turned to leave and then saw Katara. Before she could change her mind, she hurried to her side. "Katara, come on we should go." She said, having to raise her voice so Katara could hear her. She flinched as someone threw a bottle over their heads and watched as it smashed on the ground. The farther she could get Katara away from here, the safer it would be for the younger girl. "We really shouldn't be here." Jasmine added.

Adelaide rubbed her temples, her brow twitching. The noise had only gotten louder and louder outside. She needed to speak with Lyle. Standing up, she swung open the doors of her office and saw workers turn their head to see her walk. Her mousy assistant sprung up from her office chair and hurried to the mayor as she walked. "U-umm, the news crews is here. I would strongly advise against going outside!" Adelaide didn't say anything and kept walking.

The TVs in the lounge showed the riot, and people were starting to throw objects. She really hoped Lian was still at the mansion. Putting her hands on her hips, she gave a look to her assistant before pausing. "Where is the commissioner?" The assistant understood the cue, nodded, and ran off. This riot was not going to end well.

"Simmons, watch the group at the back of the crowd. Get those idiots outta here before they drag everyone else into their shit fest." Lyle barked. As Simmons ran off to carry out his orders, some young woman came up to him and informed him that the mayor was coming out. "Aw hell, Adelaide..." He growled, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What is she thinking..?"

"Hannigan, line up at the door with me, the mayor's coming out!" Lyle ordered, heading back to the building. He stepped inside the lounge and took off his hat, giving Adelaide a stern look. "Madam Mayor, I advise strongly against appearing outside. This thing's ready to explode. I don't want you out there when it does."

Lian grimaced a bit as the crowd became even more rowdy, even started to throw things like a child with a tantrum. Didn't they want the violence to stop? Why fuel the violence more with this riot? It just didn't make any sense to him. He looked over at the building, having a feeling that his grandmother was in there. Hopefully she wouldn't come out. If she did, Lian didn't know what the crowd would do. And this quite scared him.

He squirmed through the crowds of people, getting into a small spot that had a bit of room from the rioters. This was ridiculous. it wasn't like these people could do better with the crime rates here and with taking care of the city matters.

Lucky for Katara, a familiar face soon found her. Jasmine seemed as freaked out as she was. "Any ideas on how to get out? This place is jam packed," she said. If they were going to get somewhere safe, they were going to have to fight through this crowd without getting separated. And besides the crowd, there were the police officers and reporters to worry about. She turned her head when she heard a couple of voices saying that the mayor might make an appearance. Oh dear, she thought. If Mayor Adelaide came out now, that would definitely provide the spark the crowd needed to turn this protest into a riot.

Lena weaved and elbowed her way through the crowd, grumbling in annoyance at their lack of compliance, and the probability that the bread she had just brought was now squished. All she had wanted was to pick up some groceries for herself and Holli, and had made the ultimately disastrous mistake of taking the scenic route. Well, this was more of a scene than she wanted to take in, quite frankly. "Bunch o' rude social justice wannabe's." She muttered, shoving her way through the throng of people.

Seeing a slightly familiar back of the head, she grabbed an arm from around a few other people. "Lian?!" She half shouted over the noise of the mob, hoping it was in fact him she had grabbed and not some stranger who happened to have the same haircut.

Lian was glancing around the crowd, trying to see if his grandmother was going to actually make an appearance or not. He really hoped that she didn't though. Suddenly he felt someone grab his arm, startling him a bit. Then he heard his name as well. Lian looked to see who it was that had grabbed him, blinking a bit at seeing at Lena. In her other hand, he could definitely see that she had been among the lines of grocery shopping, he believed? With how the crowd was being, Lian hoped that both Lena and her bag of stuff was safe. "Lena?! Guess you got caught up in this by accident?" Lian asked, assuming that she had the same luck as he did today.

Zekel walked thru the crowd wearing his old bodyguard suit from back in the day of guarding the Mayor. It was a black suit, like the other bodyguards, but he had his coat off. He wore a white button down shirt where the first two buttons were undone that was not tucked into his pants. And around his neck was was a pink and white striped purple tie that was loose down to the third button around his neck, as it matched that of the Mayor dress colors. His hair was down half his back in a pony tail. He pulled out a cigarette and smoked on it.

He was not sure why he came here, but something told him that trouble might arise. He got up close to the podium, watching the news crews and trying to stay out of the camera's sight. He over-looked the crowd, seeing a lot of young girls, women, and children seeming to be afraid. He wanted to make sure his eyes and sense were open. He wanted to make sure everyone was safe. But he also wondered, Why in the world am I out here? I am not a bodyguard anymore. And yet. . . . Of course he was the best bodyguard before he left. He put his coat on over his hair, and left it unbutton. Something does not feel right here. . . . . His thoughts trailing in and out.

"No, I like my bread squished, makes it easier to eat." She yelled over the noise, attempting at sarcasm but barely succeeding with the volume she needed to be heard. Craning her neck over the mass of bodies she glanced around to look for a potential escape route. No such luck, but she did see a statue a little way through the crowd from them, lacking any protesters hanging off it with picket signs. "Hey tall person, can you see anybody sitting on the base of that thing?" She asked Liam, pointing in the direction of the statue.

Lian quirked an eyebrow at this, but didn't take the sarcasm to seriously. The people were getting more rowdy and loud. He would've chuckled at her calling him tall person. But it didn't seem like the right time to really laugh. They needed to get out of here, quickly. Lian looked over at the statue, shaking his head. "There's nobody sitting on the base of it. Should we head over there then?" Lian asked as he grabbed her hand, waiting for her to respond, getting ready to push their way over there.

Lena nodded fervently. "A sea of bodies is no place for a lady." She joked, winking at him "Unless she wants it to be." She gripped Lian's hand, half following him, half pushing people out of the way, until they finally reached the base of the statue.

"Phew! quite a hubbub..." she stated, swinging her bag of shopping up onto the plinth, and pulling herself up after it. She settled down with her legs swinging over the edge and motioned for Lian to sit beside her. "Do you know what any of this is about anyway?" She asked. Looking out at the crowd. It was huge. Was half the city here? Or did it just seem that way because she still wasn't used to just how many people were in Attica?
